Contemporary Art
My artworks are a reflection of my immediate environment with a keen interest in the human form and faces (portraiture). I tried to use different media both conventional and unconventional to execute my works. In my early phase of work, I tried to depict the human form and face using the veining pattern from leaves (that is as my brushes), this is because of the aesthetic quality the leaf veins possess.
Currently, my new body of works tries to capture the complexity of the human mind using the liquidized painting technique to render my form. This is to bring to the fore how feelings are interwoven and mixed in the human mind.
BIO
Yusuf Olayinka Umar was born on October in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. He studied Fine Art at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, majored in painting in 2010, and was awarded a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the same institution in 2016.
He is currently pursuing his Ph.D in painting at the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State.
