Personal Profile

_DSC9549.jpg

Chinedu Chidebe is a visual artist born and raised in Anambra, Nigeria. He studied fine and applied art at the university of Nigeria Nsukka (painting major) and had other formal trainings in the studios of Onyi Atuonah and Denis Ani respectively which contributed to developing his skill.

He works with a variety of mediums and have continually drawn inspiration for his personal experiences

Presenting his subjects against a flat background in an expressionistic manner. His works can be seen as an allegory where he takes inspiration from the idea of virtual reality headsets where he paints over the eyes of his subjects thereby using it as a metaphor to explore the concept of living in one’s head.

What it means to be physically present but not fully present, getting lost in a space we've created inside our head in search for comfort which makes it difficult to accept what’s real; which is one of the problems we face in the modern world and is partly the reason why young people resort to drug use in order to escape for a while.
